Wuhan Hankou Colonial Past and Old Tea Route Walking Tour
Hankou was the tea-export hub of imperial China — 90% of the tea reaching Russia and Europe in the 19th century shipped through here, earning it the nickname "Oriental Chicago." This walking tour covers the British, French, German, Russian, and Japanese concessions along the Yangtze waterfront: Jianghan Customs House (1924), the old Russian Tea Trading Company, Bao Hua Lou (now a courthouse), the Catholic Heart of Mary Church, and the Hankou Tea Trade Museum. Includes a tea-tasting at a working Russian-style tea house. Walking ~6km mostly flat along the Yangtze esplanade. Best in March-November to avoid Wuhan's humid summer heat.
